Hi @John,
Our goal at Quantopian is to scour the earth for talent. Our working model is that talent is randomly distributed throughout the human population. To maximize our business potential, we want to gather as many aspiring quants as we possibly can. Our community is an important part of our strategy -- half of our new users come to Quantopian by first visiting a post in these forums.
The best content on our forums, from the perspective of engaging and growing our community, are posts about the field of quant finance. Jamie’s responsibility is to moderate these forums and maintain a tone and focus that benefits the members who want to join us in the hunt for alpha. He deleted your comments because they were off the mark for both tone and focus. You’ll notice that we allow many negative comments and threads -- there are long threads criticising our product, our business model, our investment strategy. We have thick skin, but we also have a purpose in maintaining these forums: engage people who are interested in quant finance.
These videos are about women, but they are for everyone. Even you, @John Smith. Collaborating and creating and communicating with people who experience the world differently than you do is the most powerful form of learning. I can attest to that from personal experience. We make content that educates, that expands the minds of our community. The video above is full of interesting observations about learning the field, finding a way to break into the industry, connecting with peers and mentors. Beha didn’t experience those things in the way that you may have or would. That’s why it is so beneficial for you to hear her perspective.
I am so grateful for my team. I have teammates who have life experiences very similar to mine; and many others who are completely different. I’m grateful that I worked with Beha, as well as with many of the women in this video series. I’m also deeply grateful that they took the time to share their experiences with all of us. In this community, we prize learning and self-improvement. These women are sharing their knowledge. As long as there are women from our field willing to share, we’ll keep making and sharing their videos.
