Will fetcher eventually be allowed for use in Quantopian Open?

I guess I did not read the rules carefully because I could not submit this algo as a result of using the fetcher. Bummer because I really think this strategy is really well positioned for the next 6 months. Does anyone know if Quantopian plans to allow strategies that use fetcher into future contests?

Try to keep PvR well over the benchmark, it dips below toward the end in part due to the leverage of 1.7. Pretty sizable risk with $2M in shorts.

There are no current plans to allow Fetcher in the contest. The problem with fetch_csv() algorithms is that they are very hard to evaluate for the hedge fund. They generally don't have any out-of-sample or historical data that we can use for stress testing.

What kind of data are you trying to use in your algo? Accern and Quandl recently became available for contest algos. If there are other data sources you'd like to see integrated on the platform, let us know!

If you're importing a custom indicator, unfortunately it can't be used in contest algos from an external source. Your best option is to mimic it by using the Pipeline API and code your signal.

Alisa,

Is there a way to alter algo code after it has been submitted into the contest? I simply need to append a dictionary once per week? Think of it as an active management strategy.

Thanks

I am fairly sure that they prohibit fetch_csv precisely to disallow active management strategies or discretionary trading posing as an algo.

Frank, Simon is correct. The purpose of prohibiting fetch_csv in the contest is to avoid active management strategies. We want something fully automated!
