lets get an update
I've kind of wondered from the beginning why the leaderboard doesn't automatically update within a few minutes of a day's close? Surely that whole process can be automated, especially given the polish of the rest of the platform. Makes sense that it takes a couple days to check everyone after the last day of a contest, but delays on a day to day basis make it seem like some kind of manual intervention is going on, which leads to the obvious question of what that intervention would be?
Sorry about the leaderboard difficulties.
We built the leaderboard generation code outside the regular production system of Quantopian. It was, I think, the right choice at the time because it helped us iterate rapidly on the rules and scoring system. I can't tell you how many different scoring systems we evaluated in the last year. . . .
However, now the scoring system is stable, but the leaderboard generation is not. I've finally prioritized converting it from the lightweight system to an in-app automated system, and we started doing that this week. I'm looking forward to that being more reliable.
That said - Leaderboards for Contests 8, 10, and 11 are all updated. Contest 12 is running now.
