Understanding Open / Close Price Orders

Hi,

I am trying to understand how to place an order close or at market open and close it e.g. next day at market open as well.

  1. I am having trouble understanding why whether I change the code to market open or market close I get the same results.
    time_rules.market_open()
    time_rules.market_close()

  2. The prices on the orders from transaction details also don't seem to match Google's Historical prices (or be close)

Quantopian and our backtester don't support market open and market close orders, you can however use schedule function, as you indicated above, to schedule orders to be placed at one minute from market open and one minute from market close.

We get the question alot about why EOD prices don't match check out https://www.quantopian.com/faq#data for an explanation.

Thanks for the reply. Will check out the price difference.

I have tried scheduling several times, 10mins after/before, etc, yet my results are the same which seem odd.

e.g. time_rules.market_close(minutes=1)

do you have an idea why it may be the case?

are you runnning your backtests in minute mode?

that may be the issue, not sure how should I specify that, new to the platform.

in the IDE by the dates and the starting capital input there is a dropdown where you can select daily mode or minute mode. select minute.

perfect will try it out. Thanks! I totally overlooked the setting.
