Tips for ZERO cost trading.

Hello Quants,

as the title ought to find I want to know how you deal with commission/spread/fees.
As for now, to get the best backtesting results I also need to find the exact cost of trading.
How do I calculate the best cost?

As for now a regular CFD in lets say silver, on IG.com has a spread of ~ 0,17%. Which means the average trade has to exceed this to start profiting.

Cost in relation to leverage?
ICE Futures you can buy contracts of 5000 oz silver at the cost of 5$ per contract. Which in percentage is a cost of 0,006%. How are spreads in future?
I have been quanting for almost a year and the spread/cost is the backbone of a good strategy, or the lack of it.
