Time Delay on live trading

Hi all, I'm having a bit of confusion regarding the limitations of live trade implementation. I understand that the paper trading is traded on a 15 minute data delay, but is this also true for live algo's trading real money?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Ethan,

Trading with real money is effectively instantaneous; the 15 minute delay for paper trading is not applied.

Hi Ethan,

There are two modes of live trading on the platform:

  1. Broker: You can connect your Interactive Brokers real money and/or paper account to your algorithm. You can add the details in your trading profile and then can connect your algo to the IB account. The data is provided minutely to the algo. When your algo executes an order, it's immediately sent to IB and they fill it. The updated fill is reflected in your dashboard in the next minute bar. If you need a hand getting setup, here's a quick 3 minute video overview. In this mode, the algorithm receives data during regular market hours, between 9:30AM- 4:00PM ET.

  2. Quantopian: If you don't have an IB account, you can still paper trade your algorithm. We provide a 15 minute delayed data feed, for free, to simulate your algo in today's market. The Quantopian Open entries are collecting live trading data in this mode. These simulated algos receive delayed data and run from 9:45AM - 4:15PM ET.
