There appears to be Q constipation over scaling up computing resources, due to the cost. Would it be feasible to allow each user to set up a cloud computing account (Amazon?), and then link it to Q? Then, the user could scale up at will, and get the bill (above whatever level Q would subsidize). It would also set Q up for the eventual day when some crackerjack hedge fund managers are worthy of a higher end platform; you could just pay their computing resource bills in exchange for their contributions. This might be a step in the right direction to attracting commercial business, as well. I'm guessing that at some level, there are smallish, start-upish financial outfits that would like to use the Q platform for R&D, proof-of-concept live trading, etc. (I gather that the community consensus is that Q is not yet ready for prime-time commercial use, scaling to the giga-dollars).
By linking the account, all of the billing would be handled by the cloud provider, so Q wouldn't have to take on all of this apparatus. It seems like it could be a natural progression of the platform, yes?
