Stock Ranks

Hi. I have been reading quite a bit about long/short equity strategies and I totally understand the overall methodology behind it from the outset. I understand we must rank stocks based on certain factors and then take positions based on the top x amount and bottom y amount. However, like with most tutorials I have seen the actual ranking of these stocks is of course the 'special ingredient' and seems to be overlooked/ not really explained well. Therefore, on that basis is there any good articles/ sites I can use to help me get started with this. For instance I found on stockopedia a momentum rank based on these factors:

Proximity of current share price to the 52 week high
50 day vs 200 day moving averages
1 year Relative Strength of the share price vs the market
6 Month Relative Strength of the share price vs the market

Retrieving this data is fairly simple however assigning a score to each stock based on this is something I am looking to understand and implement. I cannot find a concrete article that takes me through this step by step. Could there be a reason for this? Any tips/ advice where I maybe going wrong. Thank you
