Sharing a notebook with my team mate

Hello,
how can share the following notebook with my team mate instead of all Q users?
I also would like to have the possibility to share the notebook and to write code together. Something like a pair-programming on the same code/notebook.
Thank you
Simone

Hi Simone,

The best way to share a notebook with someone privately is to download the notebook, send it to your teammate, and then have them upload it to Research in their own account. When you are in the Research environment, you should open the notebook and then click Notebook --> Download as --> Notebook (.ipynb). Your teammate can then upload the notebook by going to their list of notebooks and clicking the upload button, which looks like a little cloud with an up arrow, immediately to the left of the blue '+' button.

We don't currently support real-time code collaboration/pair programming in the Research environment, but we do support it in the IDE. After your research, once you get to the point where you are writing an algorithm in the IDE, you and your teammate can work on coding the same algorithm, real-time. You can learn more about the IDE collaboration feature in this section of the documentation.

I hope this helps!

There currently is not a method to share and interact 'real time' with notebooks. There is a ' Collaborate' feature for algos in the IDE (see https://www.quantopian.com/docs/user-guide/environments/algo-ide#collaboration) but not for notebooks.

One can download a copy of a notebook to a ipynb formatted file which can be shared and then uploaded. This doesn't allow for collaboration but does allow you to distribute copies. That feature is in the notebook menu 'Notebook -> Download As'.

Dan, I have never been able to get the "collaborate" feature to work in the IDE. Am I missing something? I've had a colleague create a Quantopian account, I click on collaborate, I add the email address he used to create his account, then click submit. Nothing ever happens. We've checked spam, tried and retried and just can't seem to get it to work. Is there a setting I need to turn on somewhere?

It seems like you are doing the right thing to share an algo.

A few questions... after you enter the other user's e-mail and click 'Add Collaborator' do you now see their name show up in the list of collaborators in that same dialog box? If not, it means their email wasn't found in the Q list of accounts. If you go into your list of algos, next to the algo you shared is there a small icon which looks like two screens? If the other user goes into their list of algos, do they see the algo that was shared with a small icon that looks like two screens?

Hi Dan, I didn't see any of that. Then it occurred to me that perhaps the problem was that my collaborator had an email address that ended in .me instead of .com. So I just sent him the code and had him create the algorithm on his end and then attempt to add me as a collaborator. (I do have a .com email address.) That worked.

While I can't say for certain, it does appear that accounts using .me email addresses won't be able to work with the collaboration tool.
