Searching the S&P or a large subset of it?

I have a trading idea combining learning with a buy on gap algo, but to do this I need evaluate a large number of the index constituents from say the S&P 500. Is there a way to access the individual securities without specifying them in advance in context.secs? I believe there are limits on how many you can specify within your code, not to mention the tedium of it!
