Research Platform Data

I am a noob at this but I just figured out that any external data that you reference, like a csv file, in your research notebook needs to be imported into the Data subdirectory within research. You can drag and drop the file there. www.quantopian.com/research/data

Took me a while to figure this out so I thought I'd share in case anyone else is having the same trouble.

It's a good one to share because it isn't immediately obvious. We are actually working on the drag and drop interface to make it more clear.

I'd love to know where you though the upload feature should be, when you realized you needed to upload the file. I've got some thoughts about where to put it on the notebook page, but would love your ideas.

I think it makes sense to have an "add external data" button on each notebook. Maybe up by the Notebook, Insert, Edit, Run menus. That way you don't have to navigate out of your notebook to connect the data.

It makes sense to also be able to access the data folder independently for cases when you want to dump several data files at once as discussed here: https://www.quantopian.com/posts/quantopian-research-platform-comments-and-questions.

Hi Karen,

In addition to a manual mousy-keyboardy thing which will always be limited, there should be a way to programmatically grab files from a specified location in "the cloud." Would something like wget do the trick?
