Schedule of Quantopian Talks at Strata

Tuesday, September 29th

  • 2:15pm: Joe Jevnik, an engineer at Quantopian, will assist on the tutorial How to Leverage the Blaze Ecosystem with Matthew Rocklin and Phil Cloud.

  • 3:30pm: Building an Insight Machine by Matthew Granade, co-founder of Domino Labs and advisor for Quantopian
The power of data science lies not in one-off insights but in the ability to capture insights and build upon them systematically. The mechanism for doing so is to have your business process captured in logic, which can be persisted, tested, and improved. Pursuing this broader approach to data science requires different organizational and technological capabilities. Matthew will offer a how-to guide in this session.

  • 4:00pm: How Global Crowd-sourcing is Flattening Finance, a fireside chat with Dr. Jessica Stauth, VP of quant strategy at Quantopian and Eva Ho, VP of Marketing Operations at Factual
In this session, Jess and Eva will discuss how the latest crop of FinTech startups are turning to sophisticated on-line communities and open source technologies to compete with established Wall Street business models.

  • 6:30pm: Quantopian Meetup (Offsite) Portfolio and Risk Analytics in Python with pyfolio by Dr. Thomas Wiecki, data science lead at Quantopian
Stop by our meetup and learn more about pyfolio, a recent open source library developed by Quantopian. RSVP here to reserve your spot.

Thursday, October 1st

  • 1:35pm: Probabilistic Programming in Data Science by Dr. Thomas Wiecki, data science lead at Quantopian
Thomas will review how probabilistic programming will revolutionize the emerging field of data science. By automating the inference process, it dramatically increases the number of people who can build complex Bayesian models custom-made to the specific problem at hand.

  • 2:55pm: How Women are Conquering the S&P 500 by Karen Rubin, VP of product at Quantopian
Earlier this year, Karen developed an investment algorithm that invests in the women-led companies of the Fortune 1000. In this talk, she will unveil her latest advances in her development and validation of this strategy.
