Quantopian Code of Conduct

Quantopian and its forums were created with the intention of providing access to an industry that has traditionally been highly secretive. We strive to make Quantopian and quant finance available to everyone. Over the years, we have moderated the forums with the goal of keeping community discussion high quality, friendly, collaborative, and informative. Today, we published a code of conduct to more clearly communicate our expectations for community behavior in the forums.

You shouldn't expect anything to change. Collectively, we have been following this code for years. This is just the first time we are communicating our moderation practices in public in order to better set expectations.

We are extremely grateful for the thousands of community members who contribute in different ways, every day. You collaborate with, learn from, and teach one other on a daily basis and we look forward to seeing that continue.

A code of conduct notwithstanding I can personally vouch for the time people on this forum, complete strangers, have taken out of their lives to help me with my many stumbles, be it python or the platform itself - I think that is awesome and I am truly grateful for this kindness

Short but comprehensive enough to cover most things. Very nicely done, Q.

One area in which i think Quantopian manages this extremely well is in the handling of "wandering off topic". Sometimes it happens, but Q's tendency to err on the side of leniency is much appreciated and far better than some other sites (including Stack Exchange, etc) where sometimes contributors are frustratingly quick to declare "off topic" so as to score points for themselves while implicitly putting other people down. Quantopian handles this much better. Well done and thanks Q for making this a great site for us all.

Stack Exchange: A great place to post if one wants to experience cruel rejection by an aspiring in-crowd even after you spent hours making sure your answer added value, was tested, clear and useful in the greatest number of environments and still it was deleted because you're not one of the presumed cool kids or something.

Hi @Blue and thanks.
Your follow-up and more explicit comments regarding Stack Exchange are absolutely spot-on. That particular site was recommended to me as supposedly being a good source of information and ideas for computing in general and more specifically ML as applied to trading. It is not at all. Despite the fact that I have three university degrees (Maths, Physics, Engineering) and a Diploma in Investment & Finance, and more than 30 years of diverse professional experience in industry, the questions that i posted there were met with such utter condescension, scorn and derision by nasty, spiteful, egocentric, arrogant people that i vowed never to visit that unpleasant site again.

My purpose is not to engage in Stack Exchange bashing per se, but rather to highlight again what a pleasant environment Q really has succeeded in creating, in comparison to what else is out there. Thanks to all the staff at Quantopian, and to all those of you who post here in a helpful & friendly way.
