Point-in-time volume based universe for strategy

How can I create a point in time universe of stocks based on volume (e.g. 4000 stocks sorted by their adv 20 days and selecting top 100 stocks for research)? This will help avoiding any selection bias for the strategy.

You can do this with pipeline. Here's an example that does dollar volume on all stocks and filters to those with more than $100M on average over the trailing window: https://www.quantopian.com/posts/dollar-volume-pipeline

Pipeline supports ranking, so instead of filtering by an absolute value, you could also rank all stocks by dollar volume traded.

Thanks John - Pipeline API looks very promising.
