Paper Trading Algorithms

Hello,

I am starting to develop algorithms and would like to paper trade them in the market. Is there a way to paper trade on Quantopian, or on another website?

Yes we have live paper-trading on Quantopian and live trading currently through Interactive Brokers (IB)! When you run a backtest you'll see in the upper right hand corner a button for live trading. There you will have the option to paper trade through Quantopian or live trade through IB, and I think IB offers their own paper trading platform so you can use that too. The live trading through Interactive Brokers includes real money trading as well.

As James mentioned, it's easy to paper trade on Quantopian. You have 2 options for live trading- to use our free, 15 minute delayed price data or connect your Interactive Brokers real money and/or paper account. To deploy a live algo,

  1. Run a full backtest in minute mode
  2. Click "Live Trade Algorithm" button
  3. Choose "Quantopian" to use our free data or "Broker" to connect with IB
  4. Authenticate your IB account and start live trading

Here's a quick 3 minute overview of the process. And keep in mind these tips for live trading algos!

@ Shubhabrata Run a full backtest and then live trading button will be enabled

How do you do this now with brokers phased out?

Zack,

Run a full backtest and then live trading button will be enabled .

But that’s just paper trading, How do I hook it up to a brokerage

Quantopian has discontinued brokerage integrations. I suggest you look at zipline-live.io, an open-source project that helps people connect to Interactive Brokers for algorithmic trading.
