New to Quantopian

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to Quantopian, and while I'm pretty decent at programming, I need to learn the resources I have available. What is the best way to learn these functions and variables Quantopian offers? And what is a good video playlist I can watch to learn? Lastly, I'm looking for some sort of function where I can input the security and a number and it will tell me the price of that security that number of days ago. Thanks for the help!

First off, welcome to Quantopian!

Certainly take a look at the tutorials. There are several step by step guides, including notebooks and algorithms, that highlight the basics. There is also a Quantopian YouTube channel with a number of videos ranging from basic trading concepts to advanced analysis. The forums here is a general repository for questions, answers, and platform details. A good way to search the forums is to use the Google 'site' option (eg site:quantopian.com/posts) followed by your search term. You may want to look at this one for some other resources. Finally, I'd encourage you to contact our support team for specific questions.

There are a number of ways to get security price information. It also depends whether one is in the notebook or IDE environment. Look at the docs for various methods to use in notebooks (https://www.quantopian.com/docs/api-reference/research-api-reference#price-and-volume-data)

Something like this will display the price of a security n days ago

# enter the security and the number of calendar days ago to get pricing
# this may not return anything if the day is not a trading day
security = 'SPY'
days_ago = 10

from datetime import datetime, timedelta
my_date = datetime.now() - timedelta(days=days_ago)

get_pricing(symbols(security), start_date=my_date, end_date=my_date)

See the attached notebook.

Thank you so much!
