New to Quant

Hello,

I am new to Quant. I have extensive experience in IT and also a CPA.

I am debating whether I should spend $3,000 to $4,000 for a 4 month weekend program to study quant. Or would it be good enough to go through all the Tutorials and Lectures from Quantopian web site?

I would love to hear from those of you who have been trading quant for a couple years on how did you learn it and what was your background before you started?

Thanks,

Kevin

You can learn a lot on Quantopian for free, and most of the strategies are fairly easy to code. I think it really depends on your goals. I have attached one of my backtests. This strategy is long only and buys stocks based on in fundamentals and indicators. I haven't live traded this, but hopefully it will help you get started.

It might depend on your learning style. There's a lot of information available for free here but a classroom might work better for some people. It's also possible to do both, like taking accounting classes and then studying a review course before the CPA exam. It would be interesting if there was a Becker or Gleim course for becoming a quant.
