Can you clarify what kind of maintenance you're looking for?
Are you looking to maintain a target position for the security? In that case, you can use one of the order_target methods based on either number of shares, dollar value, or percentage of the portfolio.
Also, while reading through the code when you manually calculate the number of shares owned,
owned_shares = int(context.portfolio.positions_value/current_price)
you can instead use the positions object to automatically track the value,
context.portfolio.positions[context,security).amount

i'm referring to broker maintenance requirements for margin accounts. I believe for a short sale you need to have 50% in value beyond the value of the sale - eg using cash to make like simpler, if I want to short sell $10K of stock, I need $5K in cash for the transaction to be accepted. You then need to maintain at least 125% (some broker set a higher limit) of value above the value of the stock, so was wondering if there was a portfolio trigger that could be set to enforce the ratio?
I'm still learning the API so appreciate your help thanks :)
It sounds like you're looking for a margin model in your algorithm, which isn't natively available in the IDE. You can add the code to make these purchasing considerations and here are some places to get started:
