Looking for help on first Algo

Hi all,

Just wrote this. First one. Thought I did alright until I wasn't even buying shares. Obviously Im missing something, just not sure what.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time

Hi Michael,

It looks like you just have a small typo on line 41. current_postion should be current_position. Here's a version of your code with that fixed. I determined that this was the problem by looking at your logs - the exception was printed there.

Hey Jamie,

Much appreciated for your help. I also ran into the "more than 3x leverage" issue when looking at this. I read the help page on ways to limit leverage and was wondering if that is something that has to go in before the algorithm is executed or before the market opens data is pulled?
Appreciate your help on this. Big thanks for getting the algo to work initially.

Hi Michael,

One culprit might be placing new orders before existing orders have filled, which can lead to over-ordering. To avoid this, you can use get_open_orders() and check to make sure that a stock you're about to order isn't in this list. This guard is implemented in this example - look specifically at lines 129 and 141 in the code.
