I couldn't find this in the documentation, so I am wondering if a scheduled function (schedule_function) can be running while handle_data is running (I guess no, but just to be sure)?

I haven't noticed any actual concurrency, but I have had to cause handle_data to skip scheduled minutes so I don't do certain things twice, or make sure they are idempotent.
Scheduled functions are not asynchronous. If two scheduled functions are supposed to run at the same time, they will happen sequentially, in the order in which they were created.
Note that handle_data runs before any functions scheduled to run in the same minute.
Note, also, that scheduled functions have the same timeout restrictions as handle_data, i.e., the total amount of time taken up by handle_data and any scheduled_functions for the same minute can't exceed 50 seconds.

Great clarification Jonathan!
Would it be possible to add it to the online documentation at https://www.quantopian.com/help ?
I'll see what I can do. ;-)
