How to get Previous day mavg

Hi guys,

Please apologize me for the simple question but I never programmed in Python before.

How I can get mavg of the previous day? I'm trying to catch the downtrend of moving average so I'd like to deduct this numbers to look for the negative value.

Thanks,
Alex

did some temporary solution.

 import pandas as pd
    hist = history(bar_count=20, frequency='1d', field='price')
    slice1 = hist.iloc[0:10]
    slice2 = hist.iloc[10:20]
    xx = pd.DataFrame.mean(slice1)
    yy = pd.DataFrame.mean(slice2)
    if xx > yy:
#do some order here..

Would be glad to get some decent solution on proper way of doing this.

P.S. guys how you convert dataframe data to plot with record() ? thx

You're on the right track! The variables slice1 and slice2already return pandas dataframes so you can do:

slice1 = hist.iloc[0:10].mean()
slice2 = hist.iloc[10:20].mean()

This will give you the most recent 10 day mavg and next 10 day mavg for all the stocks in your universe. If you want to get the value for a specific stock, you can index into the dataframe.

The record() function needs a single value to record. It can't plot an entire dataframe. If you want to track the means (ie values of slice1 and slice2) then using my code snippet above you can do,

record(xx = slice1, yy= slice2)

Cheers,
Alisa
