I want to buy on margin based on moving averages and short on cash, but my moving averages do not start until the algorithm starts. how could I solve that?

How can I get the moving averages of 200 days before my algo begins?
You can use the history function to pull previous prices and then take the average.
Using your variables, here is the syntax:
# get a trailing window of data
prices = history(200, '1d', 'price')
# take the moving average
xlong = prices.mean()
# index into the pandas dataframe to get the most recent X prices and take the average
long = prices[:50].mean()
mid = prices[:18].mean()
