The following code errors out.
whatever = 24
stockObj = sid(whatever)
Why can't I do this? Is there a way around it? I'm certain the stock is part of the "data" dictionary.

Brian, the reason you can't do it is a technical limitation in our backtester. It causes me some pain to say that! I'd much rather build a product that just works the way you want it to, every time. I want to make that work, and I'm sure we will at some point in the future.
The problem is that whatever in your example could literally be anything, depending on how you compute it. Our backtester needs to preload all of the data it is going to use before the backtest starts - it doesn't support loading new data on the fly. So, you have to explicitly define the stocks in your backtest before it kicks off.
