Getting order time

Hi I am trying to pass in the time the order was placed to a dictionary
I created context.timex[stock] with the stock symbol as the key,

however when I try to recall context.timex[stock] & iterate over all the Open orders I get an error KeyError: u'UBS'

 context.timex={}

if (data.can_trade(stock)) :
         ex_time= pd.Timestamp(get_datetime()).tz_convert('US/Eastern')
            context.timex[stock]= ex_time

#Timing Function
Open_orders = get_open_orders()
    for stock in Open_orders:
        security=stock

        Stock_TV= context.timex[security]
        print("Stock Time Value: ",Stock_TV)

Hi JC,

You're getting a key error because u'UBS' is not a key in the dictionary.

I can't help much without seeing more of the code, but I have 2 hypotheses for why this might be happening.

The first one is that the equity for UBS is not recorded whenever you're running the code that contains data.can_trade(stock). This would be fixed by ensuring that all orders that you create are recorded.

The next one is that you could be recording the stocks as equity objects, but trying to access them as strings. The object type you're using for entry into the dictionary has to match the object type that you use to access them. In other words, if [Equity object: UBS] is being used to store times, you must use [Equity object: UBS] to access the times, as opposed to the string "UBS".

Hope this helps,

Hi Lotanna,

I found the solution
lol

 for stock in Open_orders:
        security=stock
        check=bool(stock in context.timex)
        if check:
            print("This is not completed:", security.symbol," Timing: ",context.timex[security])
        print("security:",security.symbol)

thank you for helping me look at it in a different way
