First time Poster: Initializing backtest......

Hi,

New here, started playing around yesterday, ran a few backtests, today... nada. whenever I hit "build algorithm" i get stuck at initializing backtest... for over an hour on some instances now. I actually don't even care to backtest yet, but to just see the logs to make sure that my code works as I would expect. this is happening across any algo I run, new and old (previously working algos)....

is there a certain number of builds one can do in a day? is something else wrong?

We use a browser feature called "websockets" to display backtest results. If you never get backtest results that implies that your websocket isn't connecting. That can be because of an old browser version, a firewall between you and Quantopian, a interfering browser plugin, or very aggressive browser security settings. Given that it worked for you for a while, but then stopped working, that might help in the troubleshooting. Were you on the same browser on both days? Same computer? Same network?

I suggest you troubleshoot it from that angle. If it doesn't work drop us an email at [email protected] for more troubleshooting.

EDIT: I looked at the database, and I can see that you're getting some exceptions today, and some completed algorithms. The most recent successful one was a full backtest kicked off at 3:57PM EDT, followed by 3 "builds" that had exceptions.

ahhhhh... corporate network firewall most likely. Thank you Dan

EDIT: using http://websocketstest.com/ seems that (Port 80),(Port 8080), (Port 443,SSL) are disconnected and (Port 443) is connected

RE your EDIT: cool, looking back at backtests, I can see that they are completing (or not depending) but it seems like nothing can be displayed about it. I assume this has to do with the network I am on, and when I am on another network I will be able to view results and logs and such.

We require SSL on our connections, so that sounds like the problem.

I've had a similar issue and tried a lot of things.. the issue occurs when on our corporate network..

eventually I got it resolved by exporting the certificate from the browser and manually importing it into the PC
