February Contest Submissions Closed, March Submissions Are Open!

The markets are open, and the February edition of the Quantopian Open is closed to new submissions. (Remember, if you entered after market close on Friday, you won't be on the Leaderboad until tonight. We need a day of paper trading to generate your score.)

Did you miss it? Don't worry, you've got another chance. The March edition is now accepting entries. The deadline is March 2nd, 9:30AM EST.

More about the February Open:

  • 100+ Quantopian members placed 200+ total entries
  • You can track the standings on the Leaderboard.
  • The contest ends after market close on February 27th. We will announce the winner soon after.
  • The winner's algo will start trading with $100,000 on March 2. The community will be able see the account balance and follow along (though the community will not see trades, positions, and of course not the algo's code).

Good luck, everyone!

Hi Dan,

For the winning algos, it would be interesting if you posted both the real-money performance over time and, running in parallel, the Quantopian 15-minute delayed simulated trading performance. The same could be done with the backtester (since it uses a different data feed from the simulated live and real money trading, as I understand). This way, we could get a sense for the accuracy of the simulators. And then as an exercise, you could try to reconcile the results (e.g. by tweaking the slippage and commission models).

Thank you Quantopian!
So far I like what I have seen. It looks like you guys have put in a lot of effort into this contest and are also very open about it (leaderboard scores, making the csv available etc.). I think this is the most open contest I have seen till now all the while protecting our IP. Also cool that there werent any hiccups in the contest or running the backtests.
Any idea when you would allow fundamental data to be used in paper trading and in the contest?
Looking forward to the contest progressing and good luck everyone.
Thank you again!
Ajay

I'm assuming that existing algorithms are "automatically" submitted to the March one, correct?

@Kenneth, yes it's a rolling competition with monthly winners. If your algorithm doesn't win in the February contest, it will automatically entered into the March contest. And so on. The more trading data it collects, the more of a track record it develops.

Our goal for the competition is to give more people a chance to enter the Quantopian Managers Program. Before, to become a quant you needed an investing idea, capital base and the suite of tools to code your strategy. On Quantopian, we provide the back-end tools, and now the capital, to get into the industry. All you need is an algorithm idea! We'd like to see the best strategies rise to the top, and the winners of the monthly contests will be considered in the pool of algos we choose for the hedge fund.

@Ajay, I don't have an ETA for fundamentals to be available in live trading, but we'll announce in the forums when it's available!
