ETF fundamental data

Hello all,

Is it possible to obtain fundamental data for etfs? In particular I would like to use dividend data for the entire etf and if possible to query the top holdings of the etf.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark, fundamental data is only available for companies, and hence stocks. It's not available for ETFs.

Is dividend and shares outstanding fundamental data in Quantopian? if it is, does that mean that the total return from holding a etf, that distributes dividend, in a backtest is underestimated?

Jan,

There are multiple data sources for our system. Market data (which provides information like pricing data for each equity) also provides us with events such as dividends and splits. So those are taken into account when calculating returns. The market data covers ETFs.

Fundamental data is from a separate source and it covers company fundamentals. We don't use it for calculating returns of any sort. It is there primarily to help you screen and ranks stocks.

Hope that makes sense,
Josh

OK, thank you.
Is it possible calculate the current total market cap, current dividend yield for an ETF ?

Jan

I can't think of one today, currently. Sorry. Our only source to users of shares outstanding is from fundamentals and that doesn't cover ETF.

If I would like to dynamically generate a list of only equities that are ETFs: Would applying an inverse filter (remove equities that don't have fundamental data) narrow down primarily to ETFs or are there other non-ETF equities that would be included in such a list?

There is one research company who is providing fundamentals for ETFs, https://www.etfresearchcenter.com/tools/fund_detail.php?ETF_ticker=IVV

nice!
