Hi Rong,

The platform runs entirely on Python, from the IDE to the live trading algorithms. We picked Python for a few reasons. One of the big reasons is that it permits us to build an event-driven backtester/trading platform. Matlab is great for static analysis, but it's a bit too easy to have a look-ahead error that way. By doing event-driven architecture, we can make sure the algo only has "today's" data and never tomorrow's. A second reason is that Python adoption is widespread. It's open-source and commonly used by developers and scientists. The third reason is the support in Python modules - numpy and pandas in particular. They are very powerful and are comparable to the power of Matlab.

There aren't any integrations planned with Matlab, but take a look at the modules above, I think you'll find similar capabilities to what you're used to. If you're interested in contributing to the platform, take a look at Zipline, our open-sourced backtester. The code repository is available on Github, which you can run on your local machine. There is also a google group available to facilitate the discussions. If you're feeling ambitious, you can submit a PR!

Cheers,
Alisa
