Datetime() in Research vs get_datetime() in Algorithm

Hello,

Am I right in thinking that datetime() in Research and get_datetime() in Algorithm are analogous, i.e. both are expected to return the current date and time in the algorithm being backtested?

If I run a backtest in Algorithm vs the same in Research starting 1-Apr-2016, then

  • I do indeed get "1-Apr-2016" as the result of get_datetime() in the Algorithm backtest
  • In the Research environment, datetime.today() returns "1-Jul-2017" which is the current date as I type this.

Am I missing something?

Hello Palash,

The get_datetime function returns the current simulation date and time during a backtest. Datetime, on the other hand, is a python library that simplifies date and time manipulation. The datetime.today() function returns the current, real date and time. You can find the documentation for this python library here.
