Community Wiki or Knowledge Base

Hi,

I've been browsing the Forum Threads and it seems that there is quite a lot of information that is captured in some of the discussions but which is not necessarily easy to find again in the future.

For example this thread has a good discussion on how the backtesting engine treats empty bars where there were no trades:

Would it be possible to set up a community wiki so that useful snippets can be collected in one place where they can be categorised and indexed for future reference?

Regards,
snth

Also, is there a way to search the forum posts? I didn't anything.

Thanks for the ideas! Yes, we totally agree that we need to expand our community features.

  • people want to search/peruse full algorithms
  • people want to use code snippets - frequently used code
  • in the future, we want to make it so people can share data sources

A wiki is an interesting way of tackling that. I'll look more into that one.

We don't yet have search. For now, you can use google's shortcut - it's doing pretty well. https://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.quantopian.com+SEARCHTERM

Thanks for the google reminder, I will use that for now.

In terms of wikis, I've found gitit to be very lightweight and quick to set up but perhaps it's not feature rich enough. It also uses Markdown or reStructuredText wihch is nice. MediaWiki is obviously well known but requires more infrastructure like a database backend and it uses a non-standard markup language.

Maybe we could set up a public repo on github and use its wiki?

@Jonathat Good idea. Looks like @fawce is already setting one up: https://github.com/quantopian/quantopian-algos

Search is now here! It's not a wiki, but it's a step in that direction.
