commission. default used in contest?

I didn't set a commission for my algorithm thinking that the default commission of 0.03 would be used for the backtest and live contest results. Am I wrong here? If not then what stops me from setting a commission of 0.0000001?

By the way, I also trade on IB are at the fixed rate, so 0.005 per share buys, 0.0074 per share sells (total after all fees). Wondering why here the commissions are so much larger here.

The contest doesn't permit you to adjust the slippage or commission. You can't submit entries that use either setting. It keeps the playing field level that way.

The current defaults and the proposed changes are discussed here.

Is the commission of IB via quantopian is the 0.075 (IB API-directed per-share cost) or the 0.05 (the standard ETF / Stock fees) or 0 (special ETF's) ? this will make a difference for higher frequency algos

The current commission structure for contest algos is the default setting at $0.03/share: https://www.quantopian.com/help#ide-commission

We're working to update the default commission model, using the settings that Dan linked in the thread above, and then it will be applied to contest algos.
