Can´t use Research Notebooks [Solved]

Hello guys. So I´ve just signed up here and I was trying to do the first tutorial, but I simply can´t access the research notebook. When I open the page I get the message "403: Forbbiden". Any tips on how to solve this problem? Thanks.

Update: It turned out to be a shield mechanism in my browser. Already figured it out.

How can you get that sorted out? I am facing the same issue. Thanks!

Me too please help us

Not connecting to a Quantopian notebook (often accompanied by the 403 or FORBIDDEN error) is typically a browser settings issue. The research environment relies on third party cookies and cross site tracking to protect user's intellectual property. Those two features must be enabled in your browser. Not having these enabled can cause issues.

Here are some browser specific instructions to maybe get research working:

  • Chrome: In preferences, find the cookies menu. Enable the switch that says "Allow sites to save and read cookie data (Recommended)",
and disable the "Block third party cookies" switch.
  • Firefox: In preferences, find the cookies and site data menu. Check the box that says "Accept cookies and site data from websites"
and make sure the box that blocks Third-Party Cookies is unchecked.
  • Safari: In preferences, go to the privacy menu. Make sure cross site tracking is unchecked. Under some circumstances this needs to be checked. Try it both ways.
If none of these things work, try disabling all extensions, and re-enabling them one a time to find which one is causing issues. If you find one that is causing the Quantopian site to break, try whitelisting Quantopian.com and Dynoquant.com. Those are the two domains that Quantopian uses.

There may be other issues with your network or computer firewall or simply that your browser is not refreshing after settings were changed and working from cache. If all else fails contact Quantopian support (the link at the bottom of this page).

Hope that helps!

Hi Dan, thanks for this response, which got me working after experiencing the same problem (Notebooks not working on Safari). Could you expand a little on this statement?

The research environment relies on third party cookies and cross site tracking to protect user's intellectual property

It seems counter-intuitive as the purpose of not allowing cross-site tracking is to enhance privacy. In what way is Quantopian using this feature to - paradoxically - protect our IP?

Thanks
