I noticed that Cash is tracked in the daily positions and transactions tab of backtests. However, I don't see any averages of the amount of cash kept on hand. Is there a way to access the average cash maintained for each year or for the overall backtest?
There isn't a built-in function to track average cash held during the backtest, but you can add some code to your algorithm to perform and track the calculation.
To access the cash object, you can use
context.portfolio.cash
