API + ETD Trading.

Hi All,

congratulations for achieving the incredible 100m milestone - really impressive work. Just 2 questions regarding the platform: do you have any plans to publish an API for quant-developers to integrate your backtesting service?, and, are you considering trading ETDs?

best regards,
Jeb

Hi Jeb,

Thanks for the kind words! We're excited to reach this mark and are eager to keep pushing forward.

Have you seen [Zipline]? It's our open-sourced project and is the backtesting engine running in the IDE. You can write algorithms on your local machine and port them over to run on Quantopian. The code repository is available here and there is a Google group for discussion. Thomas recently shared a blog post detailing the recent improvements making it easier to move code from your machine to our IDE.

As for trading ETDs, the answer is unfortunately not any time soon. We are building the platform to fully support backtesting and live trading of US stocks/ETFs. ETD is a new request and we've heard previous requests for options, futures, FX ,and non-US stocks. We'll likely add additional data sources in the future, but that is later on the horizon.

Cheers,
Alisa
