Algorithm and Benchmark index for dummies.

Who can explain me the difference between the algorithm and benchmark index in the test? Which is the most important? How i have to read this two numbers? Thanx

The blue line is the returns of your algorithm. The red line is the returns of the benchmark. In a general sense, you're trying to write an algo that can beat the benchmark. A couple key caveats:

  1. Your benchmark might be different than the default. We're using SPY, but maybe you'd rather compare yourself to a different one.
  2. Our benchmark implementation has a problem, and we need to improve it!
